The comeback of the MOM jeans!!

High Waisted…Straight leg…disgrace to denim!! Well it has come back. I have shamelessly hopped on the mom jeans wagon and can I tell you! I live in them and it’s the most comfortable pair of denims I own.

Mom jeans came into action by mid 2017 where celebrities started to show up in mom jeans for their casual grocery run and walk with their dogs and since then the searches for ‘mom jeans’ are up 105% according to Global fashion search platform ‘LYST’.

The Evolution!

Like any other fashion trend that is cyclical in nature, this 1980’s style is actually a renaissance of comfortable women’s wear and why should it be labeled just for ‘Mom’s’. Well after some research it looks like the very first jeans that were really made for women — ladies’ Levi’s, from the 1930s — was addressed to as ‘mom jeans’. Initially called as ‘Wedgie Fit’ by Levis they had to recall it as ‘Mom jeans’.

Why are mom jeans so trendy and why it is probably here to stay!

Mom jeans are probably the trendier version of sweatpants. Easy and comfortable but stylish! They are super flattering for all body types. Jessica Morgan, co-creator of the snarky celebrity-style blog Go Fug Yourself, tells The Post.“One of the reasons that these jeans are back in style is that they’re very ’90s, so they are sort of retro and entertaining to the people who are wearing them.” to this she also adds “It’s that fashion thing where people wear things that are intentionally ugly because they’re interesting”. Which I find is really relatable, the range that this ugly piece of denim can go is really interesting; take it to grocery shopping, catch a flight with it, go to a party and you will definitely stand out!

Body positivity and Mom Jeans

Mom jeans is actually good news for women. There was a period in time when mom jeans was considered to be for ‘moms’ who could wear jeans so high enough that it gave them a wedgie! Moms who were dorky! but 2021 has an interesting turn for mom jeans coming in full force not just for the moms alone. An antithesis to the modern ‘skinny fit’; mom jeans is a breakthrough it was not just for the thin and beautiful but for the one with the right vantage point.
